So much for the pregnant man Thomas Beatie bringing attention and perhaps even a little acceptance to his transgender pregnancy. Thomas and his wife Nancy appeared on Oprah on Thursday and they really did not come across well at all television and basically it was quite easy to tell now that these two are in it for all the publicity they can get for themselves.
That's a shame, as this could have been a pretty nice breakthrough, but one can guess that as long as people are interested in looking at them as freaks, they are more than willing to accept that and try to cash in on it as well. One would be shocked if they don't start the bidding for the baby photos and after that Oprah appearance it certainly seems like they want to be famous in the worst way. *** I thought this might be a good thing when I first heard about it, and once it was established that is wasn't a hoax it certainly seem like a good way to get some acceptance from people that didn't really understand the process and just to get people talking about a transgender pregnancy would be a good thing. He posed bare chested with a large baby bump photo here. But the Oprah show was so obviously about their desire to get in front of cameras and get their names out for shock the cause may be lost. It seems as if their activism is now all "me" based and they want cameras trained on them. It was laughable when they said they would "go into hiding" if the spotlight was too bright. Once you go on Oprah and give People magazine an exclusive, the fame will follow. *** And just so it is understood, though Thomas is legally a man and had his breasts removed, he still has all of his reproductive organs intact. He is a woman in that respect and that's why he is able to get pregnant. This swimsuit photo shows Tomas when he was Tracy Lagondino, a very attractive female model. Let me be clear, as a gay woman and just as an observer, I have no problem with this couple having their baby together anyway that they need to, but after that appearance yesterday and all of the publicity being sought, it seems a bit off. Gay Socialites has there opinion here and Charles Winters seems to agree as well.
