It's a little creepy in a Hollywood horror movie kind of way. A Patagonian cavy, which is basically a bizarre little creature that looks a bit like a rabbit with a mule face and has a funky little kangaroo look as well was found in Oregon wandering the streets. Some believe it looks a little like a beaver as well and many think it is a hybrid animal.
Patagonian Cavy Caught in Oregon
According to the Dickerson Park Zoo, the Patagonian Cavy is a member of the rodent family and is native to Patagonia. Cavies can run very fast and are known to leap up to six feet. They make their nests in burrows. Sometimes they dig their burrows and sometimes the use burrows or dens made by other animals like armadillos. A female Patagonian Cavy will have about 1 to 3 babies at a time. Cavies will come out in the day or night, but when people are around allot they tend to come out more at night.

This one came out to play. KATU reports that a couple of Milwaukie High School students made a bizarre discovery on the way to school Tuesday morning. There are lots of photos here, and the report notes that at first, they thought it was a little deer or maybe a small kangaroo but after making some calls, they found out it is actually a Patagonian Cavy, the world's fourth largest rodent.
17-year-old Nicco Phillips was one of the kids that found the little critter and he was ready to keep him. But the owner has come forward. The Associated Press reports that the owner, Branden Voight, had come forward and would be picking up the cavy, whose name, it seems, is Spock.
