It's been one week since a freak accident killed a dolphin that was performing a jump at SeaWorld. The dolphin named Sharky perished at Florida's SeaWorld theme park last weekend, while guests looked on and trainers were in the water. He died after colliding with a fellow dolphin while performing an aerial stunt, officials said.
SeaWorld Dolphin Freak Accident Investigation
The 30-year-old female dolphin Sharky, was executing a trick when she ran into another dolphin last Sunday at Orlando's SeaWorld, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported. It is reported the accident was completely unexpected and uncommon. Park officials are looking into what may have gone wrong from the training cues to the dolphins' speed to the route they took.

The collision occurred after Sharky and the other dolphin, 13-year-old Tyler, swam into the deeper center of the pool and afterwards leaped from the water for the crowd. Becca Bides, a spokeswoman for the amusement park explained that the reason of the accident was the fact that Sharky misjudged one of the leaps and crashed into Tyler while in flight.
WESH has a video here that reports on the investigation. This statement was released earlier, "This is an unfortunate, random incident. While it is not unusual to have two animals performing aerial behaviors at the same time, we are reviewing the situation to ensure even such a random incident does not occur again."
