What now California? The moth infestation has caused some controversy in the Golden State as a team of scientists says the state can't beat back a moth infestation by using only sticky traps, so officials will have to use aerial spraying and other pest-fighting techniques. But many are not comfortable with that.

Mercury News notes that Pacifica is now the latest city to take a stand against the aerial spraying of pheromones to control the light brown apple moth amid continuing scientific debate about the safety and effectiveness of the plan. The Associated press reports that after a round of spraying in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties last year, hundreds of people complained of feeling sick.

Environmentalists argued that the spraying is not necessary and is unhealthy and they have proposed using the sticky traps as an alternative way to get rid of the moth by fouling up its mating cycle. So far it hasn't worked. A video on the controversy is here. It is the second video from a Dont Spray California.org event.
This video is long, but interesting. It goes into the biology, politics and health issues with California's emergency pesticide spray program for the Light Brown Apple Moth.
