While the lower forty-eight braces for another round of big government giveaways Colin Powell, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) and Alaska Governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin are all looking north to Alaska as scandals and reports make their way down from the forty-ninth state.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke on Friday praised Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens' sense of honor at his trial on corruption charges, calling his reputation for honesty and integrity "sterling" in the quarter-century they've known each other, reports the Associated Press.

The Alaska legislature's report on Gov. Sarah Palin's "Troopergate" scandal was released yesterday. According to the Anchorage Daily News, Palin "abused her power in pushing for the firing of an Alaska state trooper who was once married to her sister, or by failing to prevent her husband Todd from doing so."

Ed Morrissey writes, "The report acknowledges the obvious: Governor Sarah Palin has the right to fire political appointees for whatever reason she desires.  The termination of Walt Monegan was completely within her purview and her authority.  However, we hold politicians to higher standards, or at least we should, and the report’s conclusion that she abused her power in light of her husband’s actions in attempting to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired will stick in voters’ minds in the final days of the election."
