Spanish lovebirds Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are engaged, according to reports. The couple - who have refused to even publicly confirm they are dating - are excitedly telling friends their wedding plans. "They're telling friends they will get married," says a friend, who insists they heard the news directly from one of the stars.
Respected columnists Rush and Molloy also insisted: "Take it from us, they are engaged. Rumors that they might be betrothed have been floating around since April. Not true then. But true now." However they insist that the engagement is the only rumor about them that is now true. "They say the pregnancy stories aren't true," says another skeptical friend. Publicists for the stars declined to comment.

Cruz, who famously dated Tom Cruise, professed ambivalence about being a wife as recently as August. "I don't know if I believe in marriage," the actress said in an interview. "I believe in family, love and children." She added, "When I[have children, I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life."
Rush and Molloy insists that the couple actually first got together in 1992 while making Jamon, Jamon. "Their fiery sex scenes were improved by some real-life rehearsals," the columnists insisted. "By the time Woody Allen cast them in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, both were older, wiser and international superstars. They fell in love all over again."
