Movie producer Kevin Smith has revealed that he has overcome a creative slump – by smoking pot. The quirky Clerks director – and best friend of movie star Ben Affleck – has bizarrely bragged about how smoking pot has revitalized his career. Smith reportedly said that he had never really smoked marijuana until actor Seth Rogan talked him into it last summer.

And he insisted that the drug, which he admitted he smokes three times a day, has revitalized the creative juices he said were drying up. "I know you're supposed to tell kids not to do drugs," he said. "But, kids, do it! Do weed! Don't do the other stuff, but weed is good… What you want to do is what I did, build a movie empire and, at age 38, smoke it all away."

Smith enjoyed big success in the early 1990s, with movie hits such as Clerks and Chasing Amy. But his later efforts – particularly the widely ridiculed Jersey Girl featuring his pal Affleck and the actor's then-lover Jennifer Lopez – bombed.

Smith insisted that smoking marijuana is to thank for his new work – a new Batman comic that he has written and the upcoming cop-buddy flick he has directed, A Pair Of Dicks, which stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.
