Tiger Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren have not spoken with police since a one car auto accident involving Woods in the early morning hours, the day after Thanksgiving. The National Enquirer published a blockbuster story featuring hostess Rachel Uchitel and accusations of a visit she had with Woods in Australia and elevator rides down under right before that crash.

The 33-year-old sportsman, who is among the most successful golfers of all time, released a statement on his website revealing that he would not be taking part in this week’s Chevron World Challenge.
It read:
“Due to injuries sustained in a one-car accident last week, Tiger Woods will be unable to play in the 2009 Chevron World Challenge.” The golfer added: “I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week. I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I’m very sorry that I can’t be there.”

The announcement about his golf tournament no-show comes just three days after Woods crashed his black SUV outside his home in Windermere, Florida. The golfer reportedly struck a fire hydrant and then careered into a tree as he drove out of his driveway in the early hours of the morning.
It was reported that following the accident, Woods blacked out for six minutes and suffered facial lacerations before being taken to hospital for treatment.
Woods, who has yet to speak to police about the incident, had been due to take part in the Chevron World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in California this week – his last competition of the year.

President and chief executive officer of the Tigers Woods Foundation, Greg McLaughlin, said: “We support Tiger’s decision and are confident the strong field and excellent course will provide an exciting week of competition…” Woods will not participate in any golf tournaments until next year, his website stated.
