Poll Watch
Poll Watch Bump: Gallup Now Has Bush Approval Rating at 36%

President Bush has watched as his poll numbers have taken a serious dive since his re-election in 2004.

Bush Poll Numbers Slowly Climb

The one-time low of 31% recorded early last month has improved 5 points and the president now sits at 36% according to the latest USA Today/Gallup poll.

Gallup claims the recent gains for President Bush are due largely to the increased support among Republicans. But the polling company points out that even with the improvement the current rating still ranks among the lowest of Bush's presidency to date.

USA Today reports that the latest reading: 36% of the 1,002 adults polled over the weekend said they approve of the way he is "handling his job as president."

That's up from 33% who said that in a May 8-11 poll and 31% - Bush's low in the USA TODAY/Gallup poll - in a May 5-7 survey.

Pew has the president at 33%, Fox News Channel - 35% (registered voters), CNN - 36% (adults) and CBS News - 35% (adults).

It appears to be only a slight bump but is inching upward across the spectrum of polls.

Could it be that President Bush bottomed out?
