"Good morning, everybody," McClellan said. "I am here to announce that I will be resigning as White House press secretary.
It was time. Scott McClellan was no longer effective as a press secretary.

President Bush said: "I don't know whether or not the press corps realizes this, but this is a challenging assignment dealing with (the media) on a regular basis. And I thought he handled his assignments with class, integrity."
As for McClellan's replacement, The New York Times reported this morning that White House officials have contacted Fox News commentator - and Bush '41 speechwriter - Tony Snow to see if he's interested in the job.

That would be a brilliant choice.
Snow is extremely qualified and has been in the press and would bring a better delivery and sharper skills to the job.
He understands the process and it would be extremely difficult to rattle or bully Tony Snow.

Others under consideration according to press reports:
CNN White House correspondent Ed Henry just said he's been told that former Pentagon spokeswoman Victoria "Torie" Clarke has also been approached about the job, though she has previously said she would not be interested.
Reuters reports that possible replacements for McClellan also include "former deputy White House press secretary Trent Duffy and Dan Senor, a coalition spokesman in Baghdad during the Iraq war."
