When Britney Spears dyed her hair and bared all for the provocative new August cover shot of Harper's Bazaar, many believed that she was desperately trying to get fans and pundits to forget her disastrous NBC interview series with Matt Lauer.

The former pop star's appearance did that, but it may have been a couple of years in the making.

The cover shot - dubbed by some as a "Semi-Demi" in reference to Demi Moore's famous Vanity Fair cover shoot from 15 years ago was a long time coming, according to her rep.
Britney, who according to the NY Post once said, "My family, we walked around the house naked. By the time I was 13, my dad was like, 'Uh, Britney, it's time to start covering yourself up," wanted to pose naked when she was pregnant with her first child.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle blog, her representative explains:
"This was an idea she had when she was pregnant with Sean, but we never really got to it.
"Unfortunately, with Britney's first pregnancy, it was a little bit difficult for her to even walk around because everyone was so on top of 'Britney Spears is pregnant!'
"There was just too much hype."

The rep claims the cover shoot was scheduled before the singer announced her pregnancy and Spears is thrilled with the results.
