Chris Benoit killed his family and hanged himself over the weekend in a tragedy that has struck hard at fans. Were steroids to blame? Benoit was allegedly receiving steroids through the mail from an Internet company investigators are claiming. Prosecutors said Wednesday Benoit had received packages from an Internet company that sold steroids, human growth hormone and testosterone online.

Authorities say packages were delivered to Benoit from an Orlando, Fla. company whose owners have admitted to prescribing drugs including steroids even though the company knew the patients had no medical need for the drugs.

Albany County, NY District Attorney David Soares said in the news release that the investigation is still ongoing into Signature Pharmacy and MedXlife, which sent more than $200,000 in illegal steroids and prescription medication into Albany County.
"Our thoughts are with the friends and loved ones of the Benoit family,” Soares said. The scene was gruesome and bizarre. Benoit first killed his wife on Friday, then strangled his son on Saturday. He finally hanged himself on Sunday.

The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three rooms of the house. District Attorney Scott Ballard says Benoit sent two text messages to acquaintances -- apparently trying to get them to come to the house after his suicide. Can that be "roid rage?" Or did the drugs finally take their toll for someone to carry out such a horrific scene over three days?
David Soares added, "Steroids are dangerous, can cause violent side effects and more needs to be done to ensure these drugs and other controlled substances are regulated, and do not end up in the hands of anyone, adults or children, without a valid prescription."
