The speculation of the death of Fidel Castro increased as Friday progressed. "Fidel Castro Dead" was the subject line in e-mails and on Blackberry's everywhere. Was this really the end for Fidel Castro? In an effort to quell the rumors, Cuba's foreign minister made a statement on Friday saying Castro is in good health. Miami television station WPLG-TV says it has a reporter in Havana tonight, and the streets are quiet.
Fidel Castro: Dead or Alive?
That's not the case in South Florida. According to NBC-6 a large group of Cuban-Americans went to Versailles, the town square in Little Havana, to find out if Castro was alive or dead. The report said the group arrived just before 10 p.m., waving flags and screaming. He said it was only a fraction of what will happen when Castro's death is finally confirmed.

How did this all start? Forbes speculated that the rumors kicked into overdrive Friday because Miami city officials met to discuss what to do when Castro dies. Speculation has been rampant since Castro's surgery earlier this year but the last few weeks have brought rumors and several false reports. "It's been crazy," Carlos Vega said. "Everywhere you go, that's all they talk about. Radio stations, everywhere. Everybody's going nuts."
So where is Fidel? No one knows and that is helping fuel the rumors. Cubans were hoping Fidel would make a public appearance during his birthday celebrations nearly two weeks ago, but he didn't show.

On Thursday, Cuba's foreign minister said rumors about Fidel Castro's deteriorating health are untrue. That did little to stop the tide in Miami.
