There have been whispers that the photos scandal surrounding Disney gal and High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens may have been sparked by the pint sized hottie herself.  Would Vanessa really release the photos?  She has certainly placed her name in a much better position that before and the snaps are really not that bad.

In a statement released on Sept. 7, Vanessa said she wanted to "apologize to my fans," and admitted her embarrassment and "regret" over the photos.  Walt Disney Studios said it accepted her apology and would continue talks to bring Hudgens back for a third High School Musical movie.

But Star Magazine asks - is that what she really wants?  Though a rep for the actress tells Star Vanessa is "devastated," a source close to Hudgens says, "There are rumors she's fine with those photos ending up on the Internet because she wants to move away from her 'goody-goody' image."  And with no new photos emerging in the last few days it appears that Disney is still standing by her and she now can pursue other roles and broaden her appeal past the Tweens that lover her in High School Musical.

So what's the real story?  When contacted by Star at the family's L.A.-area home, Vanessa's parents, Greg and Gina Hudgens, responded:  "We've been instructed not to say anything."  The mystery deepens!
