Peterson is now a fugitive and residents in Lexington, Nebraska are wondering how someone in a position of trust could target the ones she was supposed to protect. At thirteen police usually won't name the boy, but the fears are that they are now in Mexico and authorities want to act and get as much help as possible and that is why they have named the teenager in the case. Shortly after Peterson and Fernando left town, the boy apparently contacted his family asking whether it is necessary to have a visa or a passport to enter Mexico.
School officials have seized Peterson's school computer and discovered evidence of the relationship, in the form of emails and notes. Police on Monday issued a warrant for Peterson, who is wanted on suspicion of child abuse, child endangerment and kidnapping, authorities said.
