Q: Is true that the actress who played Capt. Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager" appeared on a soap? -- Jurnetha in Memphis A: Indeed. Kate Mulgrew played Mary Ryan on "Ryan's Hope" for two years. The part of Janeway came just in time. Divorced from her first husband, Mulgrew and her two children were ready to move out of their home and into a small apartment. But then the call came: "Star Trek" needed to replace Genevieve Bujold, who left two days into filming.
Mulgrew presently lives in Cleveland with her husband, County Commissioner Tim Hagen.
