Is the Madeleine McCann case connected to the case of another missing girl named Mari Luz Cortes? Madeleine went missing on May 3 and has now been missing for 258 days. When she vanished she was just four days short of her fourth birthday. She vanished from the resort of Praia da Luz in the Algarve, Portugal. Now another girl is missing and the McCanns have commented on their website on the case.

Gerry writes, "Kate and I were dismayed to learn today that a 5-year-old girl has been missing from Huelva, in Southern Spain since Sunday evening. As many of you know, Heulva is approximately a 2-hour drive from Praia da Luz and we went there in early August to publicize Madeleine’s disappearance. Hearing of the probable abduction of Mari Luz Cortes has brought many awful emotions flooding back. We hope and pray that Mari is quickly found and returned safely to her family.

Are the disappearances linked? Both girls were almost the same age and vanished with no apparent witnesses. Detectives are looking at the two cases to see if there is any connection. It has already been dubbed as a copycat in some media reports. This is what is known. Mari Luz Cortes's family believe she was kidnapped outside her home in Huelva, 25 miles from the border with Portugal.
Mari was last seen at a sweet stall 100 yards from her home on Sunday afternoon. Officers have been searching the area for clues and the girl, and Portuguese police have also been carrying out searches on their side of the border as well. There has yet to be an established link between the two girls, and their disappearances, but certainly suspicions have been raised.
