Fred Thompson will quit the race, Fox news is reporting.  Few will be surprised that he has pulled out, as he has seemed very disinterested since entering the race very late. He drew a line in the sand on the beaches in South Carolina and lost there to both John McCain and Mike Huckabee.

Thompson never really seemed to want this thing and certainly doesn't have the energy it takes to run for Commander in Chief.  After roughly four months on the campaign trail he has closed up shop and will be heading home ending what was a long shot bid.

Now that Thompson has gracefully bowed out the smart money seems to believe that New York mayor Rudy Giuliani will be next.  The Florida primary vote is huge and if Rudy can't win there it will be difficult for him to make the Super Tuesday splash he once dreamed would be a winning strategy.

Once these two bail it will finally wind up as a two-man race between John McCain and Mitt Romney.  Mike Huckabee will stay as a thorn in Romney's side for a bit longer and Ron Paul has vowed to keep losing in primaries all the way to the convention but now it appears that it is Mitt versus Mac.
