Since the tragic passing of Heath Ledger, many details have emerged on his struggles to get sleep and the medication he was taking to try and get some rest.  Many have speculated that he must have been quite troubled or depressed.  Now model Sophie Ward says that she was with the actor in Australia recently and claims that while he was not on drugs he was very despondent over his split with the mother of his child Michelle Williams.

The Australian model told a newspaper that she was with Heath (he was rumored to be seeing Sophie's sister Gemma Ward) and that he shared with her that he was not only depressed about losing Michelle, but was down because he was unable to see his two-year old daughter Matilda.  At the time of his death Matilda and Michelle were in Sweden.

Sophie also told The West Australian newspaper that she believed that no matter how "edgy" he seemed to be when he was in Australia (this was over the holidays) she did not believe that he took his own life deliberately.  She spoke highly of him and said that he was not drinking alcohol and only "smoked cigarettes."

She also said that she will be flying to Los Angeles for a memorial service and her sister will also make the trip.  According to Sophie, Gemma is very dejected over the loss and feels that she has lost a wonderful friend.
