South Carolina Primary Results: Did He Win It?

South Carolina Democrats go to the polls today in the first Southern Primary of the presidential election season for the Democrats.  This is a must win for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton has left the state and has already moved on to Tennessee to campaign there. Many are speculating that means that her internal polling shows her losing the state to Obama.

Right now, every poll has John Edwards in what would be a third place finish in his home state.  With the recent bickering between Hillary, Bill Clinton and Barack he has tried to sell himself as the only adult in the race.  he needs a second place finish but that seems like a very long shot.

So did Barack win it?  Right now there is less than one hour until the polls close in the state and all of the polling shows Obama with a steady lead and an incredible opportunity to have the real momentum going into February 5th for the wild "Super Tuesday" that will really structure the race as it crawls forward.

The South Carolina vote has been turned into a bitter racial battle with the Clinton attack machine trying to paint Barack Obama as nothing more than a one hit wonder that can only appeal to African Americans.  If Obama does lose South Carolina it will signal a long hard fall from Iowa.

Live results will be here as they become available.  Look for a rousing speech from Barack Obama later tonight if he wins the race, as he will need to build on a South Carolina victory to battle Bill Clinton's unrestrained attacks and Hillary Clinton's shrill accusations that will surely follow.
