May Pang claims that Yoko Ono and John Lennon began divorce proceedings five years before he was killed in New York. Lennon's ex-girlfriend May Pang then says that came within days of reuniting The Beatles during her 18-month relationship with the star, she now claims.

According to a report the Beatles star dated his former assistant Pang for 18 months from 1974 to 75, with Ono's consent and encouragement - because the couple's own marriage was in turmoil, after working as his assistant for three years.

The couple spent time in New York and Los Angeles during their relationship where she caught him cheating twice. She says, "I know he had a couple of affairs. But he would come back. And when I found out, he'd say, 'I'm sorry.' "And I forgave him. It was his insecurity. He was like, 'I'm with somebody, am I making the right decisions?' and he did something stupid, and he came back.

"It was just one-night-stands. He had one in New York and one in L.A. I forgave him. Absolutely. It was one night. What was I going to do? It wasn't something that carried on over and over and over again."

Pang claims any hope the Beatles had of reuniting died the day Lennon suddenly returned to live with Yoko Ono at New York's Dakota Building. She says, "Yoko called him up one day. She had this method she had to help him quit smoking. He said, 'I'll be gone for a couple of hours. I'll be back, we'll go for dinner and talk about going to New Orleans.'" That never happened.

Pang, 57, is currently promoting a book of rare Lennon photographs, Instamatic Karma.
