Will space tourism lead to joining the mile high club?  It might be a bit higher (more like 37 miles) with the announcement of what basically looks like a small plane that will give tourists a chance to blast into the sky and cruise around at about 37 miles above the earth.  It's called the Lynx suborbital spaceship and it will be ready to go in about two years.

In January British tycoon Richard Branson has unveiled his newest spaceship and said that test flights for the vessel would begin sometime this year. Branson plans to begin carrying tourists on short flights into space.  It is called the SpaceShipTwo and a photo of that craft is here.

According to a report, during the journey to and from the outer edge of the atmosphere, a passenger will be treated to a 30-minute ride that includes a minute and a half of weightlessness.  Check out a photo of that craft here. A price has yet to be set for a ride on the Lynx.  So will space tourists really try to go at it in space and take the mile-high club to the extreme?  For the price they are paying and the stories they can tell you can bet on it.

Virgin Galactic is offering tickets aboard SpaceShipTwo spaceliners for an initial price of about $200,000, though Branson said the cost is expected to drop after the first five years of operations.  The first flight is expected in 2009. The space tourism firm plans to eventual launch flights out of a terminal at New Mexico's Spaceport America, with additional trips through the aurora borealis to be staged from Kiruna, Sweden.
