Many truck drivers have stayed true to their word and have decided to pull their trucks off of the roads of America for at least one day, April 1, and have decided to have a trucker's strike on the first Tuesday in April.  It is not yet clear what impact it will have on any businesses, or how many truck drivers have decided to join in.

Independent owner-operators are fed up with rising fuel prices and they are trying only to send a message as they cannot afford to stay off the roads for very long or they will go out of business altogether.  They are facing an uphill battle and it is a nice gesture, but it is unclear what they will accomplish.

Record high diesel prices are the issue.  At over four dollars a gallon they are putting a tremendous burden on the bottom line for those that run their businesses of moving freight over the road.  They have to make the payments to fill up, and at times reports have claimed it is twelve hundred dollars just for one fill up.  Life is expensive at the pump for all of us that just buy gas for our cars, but diesel is more expensive per gallon for truck drivers and many rigs only get about five miles per gallon.

Many drivers spend around $3,000 per month at the pump according to one report.  There are 350,000 independent drivers in the US and there were predictions that there would be thousands that would join in and many have claimed support in spirit, but it is still unclear what impact, if any, this will even have.
