American Idol hopeful Jason Castro made a tremendous impact last week when he nailed "Somewhere over the Rainbow" in a shocking week that saw one-time favorite Michael Johns eliminated from the show in a stunning vote. Now a new photo controversy may have emerged and for once it is nothing racy in nature, though Jason is bare chested in the picture.

There is a photo of the dreadlocked singer being e-mailed all over and it is being posted on the World Wide Web showing him standing in front of what appears to be a Marilyn Monroe poster and there is what appears to be smoke in front of him. Basically it looks like he just took a drag of of something and blew out the smoke.

Two things, the photo could be altered, that might be him in the photo but the smoke could have easily been added in with Photoshop or any other image program. Is someone attempting to sabotage the young idol hopeful after his stellar week? Second, it could be smoke from anything, a cigar or even a cigarette. It's a big leap, but as it keeps getting e-mailed around it will create a controversy, as Idol is the number one show in America.

Rolling Stone wrote back in February "Last night American Idol combined a Seventies theme with the always uninformative “getting to know the contestants” week, so we learned Michael Johns enjoys tennis and Jason Castro is always stoned", so that might have got the whole idea started.

Molly Good has the photo here and adds, In fact, "Jason is known to go to friends’ houses to play music while the boys sit outside together and smoke cigars." All of our American idol coverage is here, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt since there is no proof at all that he smokes anything. It will be interesting to see of this photo blows into a Jason Castro American idol controversy.
