Do you have any Nalgene water bottles in your home? You might have if you have a baby or you use the popular bottles that are sometimes used by hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts. On Friday, Nalgene officials announced that in response to consumer demand, they would phase out their outdoor line of products containing BPA in favor of a new line of products that are BPA free.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, "The moves come in the wake of a report from the U.S. government's National Toxicology Program saying that there is "some concern" about BPA. Experiments on rats linked BPA to changes in behavior and the brain, early puberty and possibly precancerous changes in the prostate and breast. While such animal studies only provide "limited evidence" of risk, the draft report said a possible effect on humans "cannot be dismissed.""

A report from WHAM-13 notes that environmental medicine experts say bisphenol-A can trigger the estrogen hormone, and could lead to prostate and breast cancer. A press release notes that several groups have stepped up their call for BPA restrictions with the release of the aforementioned new findings of BPA in baby bottles, infant formula cans, Nalgene bottles and human samples.
Nalge Nunc International said Friday that it will substitute its Nalgene Outdoor line of polycarbonate plastic containers with BPA-free alternatives.
