American Idol: Syesha Mercado Leans on Her Fiancé for Support

Syesha Mercado survived another trip into the bottom two last week when many idol viewers were shocked that Carly Smithson was eliminated from American idol.  Many thought that Brooke White's time was up while others believed that Jason Castro has made his last performance on the show.

But in the end it was Carly and Syesha in the bottom two and Syesha moved on right into the top five.  She deserved it, her performance on Tuesday was one of the best of the night.   So how does she get through the stress of the show?  She leans on the man she is engaged to.

Jetting from Miami to L.A. to see his fiancé of five months doesn't come cheap.  "It's a lot of money!" says actor-producer Hess Wesley, 25, who estimates he has spent more than $5,000.  But it's worth it for the two, who met three years ago at Florida International University.  It’s nerve-racking, but I go to show support,” he tells Us Weekly magazine.  She likes to see my face in the audience.”  

His job is to be a rock for “Sy”, 21.  She’s been very, very emotional, and I help her calm down,” says Wesley, who admits he still thinks “Wow!” when he sees her sing.  “To me, she hasn’t had a bad night.  A bad night is the judges not giving her props.  I know she’s great.”  Check out all of our American idol coverage here including predictions gossip and analysis.
