When Jessica Simpson broke up with rock star John Mayer, photos of one of their last meetings showed a teary eyed Jessica crying as the couple moved on. Jessica is now with Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo and John Mayer more than landed on his feet with the sexy Jennifer Aniston. Both seemed to have done quite well in the dating department.

But what about that horrific split? It was a year ago in May when Jessica and John parted ways. As for why the two singers split, a friend of Mayer's told People Magazine at the time, "John did say that he broke up [with Jessica]. He said that it was because he was just over it."

As for the split with John Mayer, it appears that the soulful singer will play the triangle with Tony and Jess as her "inspiration." John [Mayer] believed in the Jessica Simpson that's within," Simpson says, referring to herself in third person. "He cherished our love. He helped make me the woman I am today. John is going to be an amazing man for someone, but I know that I was supposed to be with someone else."

That someone else may just turn out to be Romo. She says in the September issue of Elle, "Tony understands me (and) he appreciates my talent. He's the first person I've spiritually connected with.”
