Paris Hilton was a known "name" before she was shown in a sex tape video that made Internet waves for some time before a legal battle and then the tape "1 Night in Paris" would later be released.  Kim Kardashian might have believed that was a smart idea as she did nearly the same thing to get her name recognition up.

She recorded a home movie with Ray J and it would later be released as well.  Both Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian were rewarded with reality television shows and parts in movies that require some scantily clad photos of young famous for being famous socialites.

The move was so smart that Kardashian would land a Playboy pictorial as she went full frontal for the men's magazine.  (See photos linked here).  Her career has taken off since.  Not to be outdone, Paris was rumored to be involved in a lesbian sex tape tryst with Nicole Lenz.  Even though the original story had quotes from Lenz, she later denied it and there has been no Paris and Rachel tape.

While ripping on dog-toting socialites like Paris Hilton and slamming Kim Kardashian certainly seem to be all the rage, the girls certainly appear as if they have the method of working the pop culture system with some skin and some wild online videos to their advantage.  How famous would either be without the tapes?
