Holly Madison shared her relationship with Playboy founder Hugh Hefner with the world — and two other women. As one-third of The Girls Next Door — along with Bridget Marquardt, 35, and Kendra Wilkinson, 23 — Holly put on a happy face at the mansion even as her real-life romance with Hef was crumbling.

"The only way I could be happy staying there was if we’d turned our relationship into something more traditional,” Holly, 28, tells In Touch in an exclusive sit-down interview. Instead, devastated over failed attempts to conceive a child with the 82-year-old, Holly finally made the painful decision to leave him in August. “I wanted to have kids,” she says. “When that wasn’t possible, I realized that I had to be honest with Hef and break it off."

In Touch Weekly: Was Hef mad at you for revealing you had split?
Holly: I think he’s upset. There were a lot of people — not just Hef — who wanted me to pretend we were still together for the sake of the show. I tried to do that for a few weeks, but I couldn’t live like that.
In Touch Weekly: How did he take the news?
Holly: Hef knew I was depressed. But if Hef’s happy and having a good time, then he doesn’t really pay attention to the warning signs. So, I think it came as a surprise to him when I said it wasn’t going to work out.
In Touch Weekly: Is there any chance you’ll reconcile?
Holly: Absolutely not. If I’m in love, once we break up, the spell is totally broken.
In Touch Weekly: Do you want to put the Criss Angel rumors to rest?
Holly: We’re just friends. We’re both way too busy to get a chance to even get to know each other.
