Just how Jon and Kate Gosselin will go as a divorced family of eight is up in the air. Following their announced separation, network TLC has put the reality show on hiatus. Jon & Kate Plus 8 will reportedly go on hold for a month while its family of sextuplets, twins and divorcing parents transitions into its new chapter. Each parent will reportedly spend alternate time with the children at their Pennsylvania home.

In a statement, the network said: "TLC continues to support the Gosselin family and will work closely with them to determine the best way to continue to tell their story as they navigate through this difficult time."

The show, in its fifth series, was set for 40 episodes, of which six have been shown so far. The network apparently wants to support the family through its transition. At an estimated tens of thousands of dollars per episode, the show is regarded as a "cash cow".

"During this time the family will take some time off to regroup and then a modified schedule will be in place to support the family's transition," TLC continued. Jon & Kate Plus 8 will be broadcast again on August 3. The pair lodged court papers to start their separation on Monday.
