The report from WENN claims that the movie superstar is reportedly a huge fan of the sci-fi franchise and jumped at the chance to play a cameo role in the new film, which will be directed be directed by Abrams.

Erik Davis from Cinematical asks the right question. "Oh man, I'd love to know how you Trekkies feel about this one."
Apparently Tom Cruise is eager to make that cameo. Of course, like with most stuff circulating the net, some top secret insider told Canada's TV Guide magazine that Cruise "didn't even need to be begged to appear in it."
That's right, Mr. Scientology himself is, not surprisingly, a huge fan of the sci-fi franchise. Imagine that.

Again according to Canada's TV Guide magazine as cited by WENN, "He didn't even need to be begged to appear in it." It's not known what role Cruise will play, but Trekkies in cyberspace are suggesting he should play a Starfleet Academy instructor.
Meanwhile, Abrams is currently auditioning actors for the roles of a young Scotty and young Bones in the film, according to reports.
