The CDC (Center for Disease Control) anticipated that at least 40 million doses of H1N1 vaccine would be shipped by mid-October 2009.  When the numbers were totaled it was far short, only 22.4 million doses were shipped.  Some doctors say they hear panic from parents as they worry their children may have symptoms of H1N1 flu, and they wonder why they can't get the vaccine now.  Others worry if they contract the flu, if they can get treatment.  Last week also saw a steep rise in deaths in children from Swine Flu.

According to Dig Triad, "114 children have died from swine flu complications since the spring. That's up from 95 reported a week ago."  The increase makes last week the worst for children in the US since the pandemic started earlier this year.

An earlier report notes, "Many regions are loudly complaining about shortage of the swine flu vaccine and an official in Arizona is cited in a newspaper report a saying he understands many citizens are on edge and government health officials are in danger of losing the public's trust."

Dr. Bob England, Maricopa County's public-health director is cited in the article and he told the Arizona Republic, "I am getting some very angry calls and e-mails right now." The paper has very useful information here, and adds that "Arizona has been shipped less than half of the swine-flu vaccine it expected so far."
