"Nairobi to Shenzhen", a "semi-autobiographical story" by Obama half brother Mark Ndesandjo recalls an abusive dad. According to the Associated Press, he has broken "media silence to discuss his new novel -- the semi-autobiographical story of an abusive parent patterned on their late father."

"My father beat my mother and my father beat me, and you don't do that...It's something which I think affected me for a long time, and it's something that I've just recently come to terms with." The AP notes the relationship between the author and the president revolves around his mother, Ruth Nidesand, Barack Obama Sr.'s third wife.

Obama Sr. died in an automobile accident in 1982 at age 46, the report notes. More on the book here from the Seattle Times from an AP interview. Ndesandjo claims passages such as the one he describes below as from "his own experience."
