Only in Hollywood (Photos) Pet Service at LA Church, Covenant Presbyterian

Only in Hollywood, or in this case Los Angeles, a Church service with a pet invite.  The first Canines@Covenant service was held last Sunday from Rev. Tom Eggebeen at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles.  Though it sounds a bit odd at first glance, the idea is getting the Word to more people by allowing them to bring their pets to service.  Complete with doggie beds for their four-legged loved ones.

According to an Associated Press article, the idea is actually is spreading.  It seems quite sound.  With their pets at their side, humans get to Church more often.  Also the pastor says he wants to help them with their grief once they lose their pets.  That is welcome for many pet owners.  Photos of the unique Church service is here from the wire service.

"The Bible says of God only two things in terms of an 'is': That God is light and God is love. And wherever there's love, there's God in some fashion," Eggebeen said. "And when we love a dog and a dog loves us, that's a part of God and God is a part of that. So we honor that."

More information here as well from the Church where they have this Vision and Mission Statement:

"Covenant Presbyterian Church, in its commitment to Christ, embraces justice, peace, and reconciliation in a changing world; envisions, as did the Biblical writers, community in which differences are respected; and endeavors to address conflict in nonviolent ways and to live in the harmony of God's love and forgiveness."

"Covenant Presbyterian Church strives to be an inclusive church of generations worshiping, serving and growing together. Being ever mindful of unity in diversity, it seeks to provide a Christian emphasis on worship, education, mentoring, community, stewardship, pastoral care, and local, national and global mission; diverse and compassionate outreach opportunities that address local needs and encouragement of the sharing of individual talents and gifts."
