Her first stop was at neighboring Dominican Republic, where she visited a hospital in the capital of Santo Domingo where child victims of the quake were being treated.

She then was taken with a UN delegation to the National Palace in the center of town to meet with President Leonel Fernandez.

According to government officials, they discussed the necessities facing the devastated nation, as well as what “role she could take as a celebrity in bringing in other famous people in the search for help and cooperation” for Haiti.

After a 45-minute meeting, Jolie emerged and made no comment as she got into a UN car and was driven out with her security escort. She was expected to spend the night in the country before leaving for Haiti in the morning.

Jolie and Brad Pitt were among the very first celebrities to move to help the nation, donating $1 million soon after it was struck by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake last month.
