Big Think Video: A 'Smarter' YouTube Now Online

Jan 10, 2008

The Big Think wants you. The launch of a Big Think signals an end to socializing on the internet just for fun's sake, offering instead a way for geeks, experts and other intellectuals in specific areas to join their minds together, share ideas, and perhaps solve some of the world's problems on video and online.

The website aims to bridge "credible, informed editorial opinion and the less controlled freestyle of online social media," the company noted. The video topics range from alternative energy to the subprime mortgage crisis. Their place on the site is determined editorially and by their popularity - which is voted on by the users.

"We live in a global age, and yet there is no central, global forum to exchange, discuss and debate the big issues and ideas of our time", said Big Think co-founder Victoria Brown, in a statement. "Big Think is a needed social endeavor that will allow an engaged global audience to share the same platform as leading voices from around the world."

Calling itself a 'conduit' between the public and global or political leaders to share ideas on how to solve the problems of the world, the Big Think network launched on Monday in what is being referred to as a 'beta' (or starting) format.

Big Think is here and has also supplied a network of experts in fields such as science, business and medicine with webcams they will use to report the latest developments in their areas of expertise every few weeks on Big Think.
