A man arrested in the gruesome dragging death of a woman in Denver has been ordered held without bail in Colorado. Police officers in Denver arrested a man suspected of dragging a woman to death by tying her to the back of a vehicle. A tattered photo of the suspect, 36-year old Jose Luis Rubi-Nava was found by investigators while processing the crime scene.

Denver Dragging Death Leads to Murder Charge

He has now been charged with murder.

Jose Luis Rubi-Nava listened to the charges through a translator during a court appearance Wednesday He will face the murder charge in the death of an unidentified woman whose body was found Monday in a subdivision about 20 miles south of Denver.

At the scene, investigators found a photo of Rubi-Nava with a woman (above right). They don't know whether the woman is the victim.

Authorities believe the man is an illegal immigrant from Mexico. An autopsy of the woman was released Tuesday showing that she was still alive as she was being dragged behind a vehicle for more than a mile. The victim was identified but her name has not yet been released, reports Denver's KVOA.

Neighbors discovered the woman's body before dawn. Her face was unrecognizable and an orange tow rope was around her neck, Nancy Foley, who lives nearby told reporters.

Cyndi James noted earlier that the Associated Press has reported that authorities did not immediately respond to questions about how the photograph ended up near the woman's body, which was discovered Monday in a suburban neighborhood about 20 miles south of Denver.

The photo was released to the public, and Sheriff Dave Weaver said tips from citizens helped lead to the arrest, but he did not elaborate.

The photo has been helpful for Sheriff's deputies as they have interviewed several people that may have information about the crime.
