John Edwards Drops Out After Florida Election: Endorsement Uncertain

John Edwards has ended another unsuccessful bid for the US Presidency. He came in a distant third in the Florida primary election that was held on Tuesday. The Democratic Party elected to punish Florida and not count their delegates at the national convention when the state decided to move their primary up, but the loss appears to have pushed the Edwards campaign out the door.

It is not clear whom he will endorse. Many have believed that he will side with Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton but he has stated that he will not immediately endorse anyone. But as Bill Clinton would say, that depends on what the word immediately means. His endorsement may not mean much anyway.

According to a report from the Associated Press, "The two-time White House candidate notified a close circle of senior advisers that he planned to make the announcement at a 1 p.m. EST event in New Orleans that had been billed as a speech on poverty, according to two of his advisers."
The wire service cites a source that is unnamed and claims that the decision came after Edwards lost the four states to hold nominating contests so far to rivals who stole the spotlight from the beginning—Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
