Denver, CO – Janna Barber, an 18-year-old freshman, will be a guest tonight on Fox News Channel’s "The O'Reilly Factor" with Bill O'Reilly to discuss an assignment she and other students were given by Andrew Hallam, a professor at Denver’s Metro State College. Janna is the sister of Matt Barber, who is the Director of Cultural Affairs with Liberty Counsel and Associate Dean with Liberty University School of Law.
Hallam, who said that “Bush Bashing” and the “F-Word” are his two favorite things to do and say, directed students to bash Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin by writing an essay that “undermines, criticizes and contradicts” the “fairy tale image” of Palin which “Republicans may wish … the American people to believe.” He then singled out Republican students and allegedly “chuckled” as other students began bullying and harassing them by hurling “F” words at them.
“I went to college to think and to learn, not to be humiliated,” said Janna Barber. “Sarah Palin represents a positive role model to millions of young women around the world, whatever their political beliefs. I was offended by such blatant liberal bias in the classroom. No one should be subjected to such intolerance.”
Matt Barber, said, “I’m very proud of Janna. She’s got moxie. What happened in Janna’s classroom typifies much of what’s wrong with secular higher education today. What’s happening in that classroom represents a microcosm for what’s happening with the angry left around the country. The visceral and even abusive reaction Andrew Hallam and some of his students exhibited against Sarah Palin and conservative students is occurring on a much larger scale among left-wing elitists in the media and academia.”
Mathew Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, commented: “What Janna Barber experienced in a public school classroom is inexcusable humiliation and intolerance. Liberal elitism and intolerance pervades secular higher education. It is no wonder why Liberty University cannot erect buildings and classrooms fast enough to accommodate the tsunami of students clamoring for a Christian education. It is not surprising why, by the end of this academic year, Liberty University will have more than 50,000 students in its residential and distance learning programs.”
Janna Barber will appear on “The O’Reilly Factor” tonight at the top of the program, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET and again at 11:00 p.m. ET. Janna was interviewed earlier today on “America’s Newsroom.
