Wal-Mart has added that it has disabled its scanners for the contaminated food. According to reports they have taken an extra step to assure none of the contaminated kibble slips through its guard and into a pet bowl. In addition to pulling tainted pet food off its shelves, Wal-Mart has programmed its cash registers to reject the purchase of any product listed in the recall.
"When we have a recall situation on a product, we set up our cash registers so that if one is not pulled off the shelf and someone goes to purchase it, the register will not allow the transaction to complete," Wal-Mart spokesman Dan Fogleman said.
We have received several notifications that Wal-Mart still has some of the items on store shelves. Mr. Fogleman said the recall is hard to keep up with. More products have been added to the list every few days and more than 100 brands have been recalled since melamine, a chemical used to make plastic, was found in wheat gluten imported from China.
