Aug 13, 2008

Pet food recall - What dog and cat food is safe? A little over one year ago dog and cat food recalls were in the news headlines every single day. This recall is very specific so far and Pedigree has recalled bags of dog food for salmonella concerns. If your dog eats Pedigree dog food don't panic just yet as it is not any sort of a nationwide recall in fact for now the recall is quite specific.

According to a report from the San Diego Union Tribune the food that is being recalled was distributed in 20-pound bags to Albertsons supermarkets in Southern California. Also some of the food was distributed in 52-pound bags to Costco stores all over the state.

Many will get very worried about the health of their pets and with the pet food recall from last year and the china scare, some will wonder what food to buy. Last year was quite a bit different than this recall. At that time it was determined that rice protein concentrate imported from China was contaminated with melamine and melamine-related compounds.

This is a bit different and we have specific bags of food to look for according to the report from the Union-Tribune. They have much more on the recall here and the report from the newspaper indicates that the lot codes for bags sold at Albertsons is 830BFCAT02. The bags sold at Costco have lot numbers of 831BFCAT02 and 830DFCAT02. Both have “best by” dates of 7/2009. More information about the recall is available by calling a toll free number.
