Photo: Million Dollar Bill Used in Attempt to Open Bank Account

Nov 29, 2007

AIKEN, S.C. -- 'I have a million dollar bill here and I would like to open a bank account.' In a fun story that makes a Georgia man an automatic inductee to the stupid crooks "Hall of Fame" that's basically what a Georgia man said to a stunned teller at a bank in South Carolina. According to police reports, a Georgia man tried to open an account with the million dollar bill that is pictured to the right.

Once the teller refused to open the account the man became belligerent and started to curse at bank workers, said Aiken County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Michael Frank, according to a report from Fox News. The teller then called in the police and they responded.

The man's name is Alexander D. Smith and he is a 31-year old resident of Augusta, Ga. After the failed "business transaction' and the cops showed up, he was placed under arrest and he was later was charged with disorderly conduct and two counts of forgery, Frank said.

The second forgery charge came after investigators learned Smith bought several cartons of cigarettes from a nearby grocery store with a stolen check, Frank said. Cigarettes, stolen checks and a million dollar bill, there is a country song in there somewhere.
