Would someone really try to put a huge marijuana growing operation inside The Mall of the Americas in Miami? Certainly it seems like a risk and despite the elaborate set up authorities found a hydroponic nursery with more than 200 marijuana plants in the mall. "I have never seen it in a mall," a DEA agent told Local 10 News.

Pot Bust at Mall Of The Americas, Marijuana Growing Operation

The Miami television station reports, "Over 200 pot plants were discovered inside a storage area at the mall. Some of the plants were as high as three feet tall. Officials said it took a lot of effort to pull this off.


Agents have now seized the plants and it was an elaborate operation. According to the Associated Press, "The grow operation was found deep in a storeroom at the mall. Authorities say the growers used the mall's electricity to power their equipment, adding the flimsy wiring could have caused a fire."

See photos and a video here. Agents would not say how the drugs were found, and no arrests have been made. Authorities said officials with the Mall of the Americas are cooperating with the investigation.
