Too Fat to Graduate - BMI Requirement
Nov 27, 2009
Are some American students too fat to graduate? Lincoln University has instituted a requirement that university students with a body mass index (BMI) over 30 will have to take a physical education class in order to receive their diploma.
According to Mom Logic, "In 2006, the university implemented a mandatory semester-long program entitled "Fitness for Life," which aimed to educate the portion of their student population with a body mass index of 30 or higher on physical fitness, nutrition, and the health risks associated with obesity, and how to maintain (or obtain) a healthy physique."

E Canada Now cites the Associated Press News service and a report claims that the school is catching some criticism from students and educational experts.
“What’s the point of this?” asked one freshman. “Some students on campus are just confused why a certain BMI has to be a requirement. Are there not a sufficient amount of prerequisites to complete prior to graduating from college?"
Is this the right way to go for this school? Should they teach both mind and bod - and help young adults get a healthier start with a better body?
