The mountain lion that made its way into a house and later killed the family dog has also been killed after authorities used the dead dog as bait to get the large mountain lion. According to a report from the Denver Post, the lion, a 130-pound male, entered through some open French doors then bolted through the window with the dog in its jaws, cleared a six-foot fence, and was gone.

The next day, personnel from Colorado Division of Wildlife set a trap for the lion where he stashed the dog’s carcass. When the lion returned to feed, it was killed. According to the report the lion was shot and taken to DOW's wildlife lab for a necropsy to see whether there were health problems that led the 2 1/2- to 3-year-old animal to bypass its usual diet of elk and deer in favor of snatching a dog from a home.

The dog's name was Scout and he weighed about 72 pounds but was no match for the hungry cat. The dog's owner talked to reporters. "I love mountain lions and hate to see it had to be killed," Mack Anderson said. "We're pretty used to them, but not in our bedroom."
The Post reports that Anderson said he managed to turn on the light, grab his shotgun and a flashlight and head out to find Scout, to no avail. See a video report linked here that shows how the lion was able to enter the home and snatch Scout and male its way back to the wilderness.
