Video Online: President Bush Jokes, Sings at the Gridiron Club

At least President Bush still has a really good sense of humor. Bush was attending the annual Gridiron Club, an invitation-only institution of Washington reporters, over the weekend and now his performance where he belts out a tune (yes, the president sings and jokes) is a hit online video. News agencies quickly broadcast what appears to be a cell phone video and he jokes and laughs away bout all sorts of things.
He has this verse for his pal Scooter Libby, "Down the lane I look and here comes Scooter, finally free of the prosecutor…" he sings as the cell phone records. The impromptu song is sung to the tune of "Green Green Grass of Home.”
He had even more verses. "As I step down from the plane and there to meet me is my mama and my papa, down the lane I look and here comes Barney, heart of gold and breath like honey," Bush sang. "Yes, you're gonna miss me, the way you used to quiz me," he sang to the reporters. "It's good to touch the brown brown grass of home."
The video is here. The president was dressed in a cowboy hat and a tuxedo and the Associated Press reports that this is the first time a president has ever sang at the event. Is it funny? I think it might depend on your political point of view but surely if President Bush would allow this side of is personality out more often he would have far higher approval ratings.
