Business as usual for the retailers, but shoppers beware. "Once the most popular items are gone, retailers won’t have anywhere to get them, so if there was ever a holiday season to buy early, this is it," says NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin in a press release.

Thanksgiving weekend, the traditional "Black Friday," kick off to offer great deals on holiday merchandise, will still have blockbuster deals on high definition televisions and other electronics, cell phones and toys, but this year, it might be wise to check early and often, especially if you want one of the more popular Christmas gifts, experts advise.
