Merry Christmas for one lottery winner from New York. One ticket is worth $162 million in a pre-Christmas lotto drawing this week for the Mega Millions jackpot. According to a report from the NY Daily News, "When buying the ticket, the winner also opted for a "lump sum" payout."

The up front payout subtracts a good chunk of the money, but the winner will still have a cool $100 million, until the tax bill is paid. The estimate after a large donation to the US Treasury, about $65 million.


Philly Burbs notes another winner from the drawing. In addition, one New Jersey Lottery player won the second prize of $250,000. The quarter-million dollar ticket was purchased in Englishtown, Monmouth County, the newspaper reports.

More lottery news...this one a bit more sad as earlier this month a report from Angela Carson noted that a $19 million winner left his wife and she was evicted after he pulled the plug on the mortgage payment and the rest of the utilities. She still hasn't located the husband.
