Arizona Teen Accidentally Kills Brother While Playing with Gun
An Arizona teen accidentally killed her brother while posing for photos and playing with a gun.
Manuel Ortiz, 22, and his 19-year-old sister were posing for pics with the loaded pistol at their west side Phoenix apartment at around 5:30 a.m. Monday when the gun "went off," Az family reported.
The accidental gunshot left Manuel dead.
He was shot in the head by his sister, and died at the scene.
Police are calling it an accident, but the sister could still face charges.
"In this particular case, there may be a situation where alcohol may have played a factor … perhaps some impairment," said Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department.
"Thus far it looks like an accident," he continued.
"Obviously these young kids were playing with this gun, wanting to take some photos with this gun, as they're holding this gun and it accidentally discharged."
According to ABC 15, the sister was questioned by police and released, but she could still face manslaughter charges if it is determined she had alcohol in her system at the time of the shooting.
