Astronauts Gone Wild (Photos) Ex-Astronaut's Plea Deal, Lisa Nowak Avoids Jail
By Marty Cox

Lisa Nowak avoided jail with a plea deal made this week. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and federal burglary in court. She is the woman that made the "Astronauts Gone Wild" headlines earlier with a cross-country trip to confront her ex-boyfriend's lover. Nowak drove 1,000 miles from Houston to Orlando to mount a bizarre attack on her romantic rival that had even the tabloids excited.

She had originally faced charges of attempted kidnapping and burglary, which are both felonies, along with misdemeanor battery, but the deal allows her to escape serious time in jail, as long as she behaves.

Not everyone was happy, including her victim. Colleen Shipman, the woman Nowak confronted in the parking lot of the Orlando International Airport in February 2007 after driving from Houston said this, "Almost three years later, I'm still reeling from her vicious attack...I know in my heart when Lisa Nowak attacked me, she was going to kill me.
The ABC News story details how frightened Colleen Shipman remains and how this verdict certainly won't help.
The report adds (Photos and more at the link):
"Shipman described how she still fears for her life, suffers nightmares, migraines, high blood pressure and other medical problems and has bought a shotgun and has a concealed weapons permit."
